The biggest food festival in not only Chicago, but the entire world is back in 2012, this time with more savory delicacies, sizzling ribs, and screaming babies in strollers for everyone. For those of you who don't know, The Taste of Chicago is a gigantic outdoor party, lasting 4 days and consisting of food booths from every possible vendor imaginable. It offers the unique opportunity of making it totally socially appropriate to stuff your face in public without worrying about your body image, and we intend to take full advantage of this opportunity. Taste of Chicago Dates, Location, Hours
The Taste of Chicago in 2012 will occur from July 11 - 15, from this upcoming Wednesday to Saturday. It opens daily at 11:00 AM, and closes at 8:30 PM, but don't take that time for granted: the most popular food stands will almost certainly run out of delicious cuisine before then. The entire festival will be contained within Grant Park, between Balbo Drive and Monroe Avenue. It's pretty big, so bring your walking shoes.
Taste of Chicago 2012 Admission Fee
None! It's free! However, you will have to buy tickets to use at the festival to buy food. Tickets are sold in groups of 12 for $8, and prices go as follows:
- Drinks: ~4 tickets
- Appetizers and sides: ~6 tickets
- Entrees and large items: ~10 tickets
- "Taste" samples: ~2 tickets
Taste of Chicago Concerts 2012
This festival isn't just about the food: there's plenty of free concerts as well! The Petrillo Music Shell will host the biggest names in music, including Jennifer Hudson and Death Cab for Cutie, with tickets starting for $25 on Groupon. There'll be other stages also scattered throughout this enormous festival; you'll have to grab a flyer on the day of the performances to know exactly what's going on, because these are often impromptu or planned only days in advance. Taste of Chicago Map 2012
Unfortunately, we can't get our hands on one of these limited-edition, super-rare exclusive unreleased maps of the Taste of Chicago 2012 yet. But seeing as the festival is in the exact same place every year, and follows the same general layout, a 2011 map should be more than sufficient to get you an idea of where you want to go.
